Rising Violence Along the Border
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant attacks in recent months, particularly in districts bordering Afghanistan. Tensions between the two countries have also escalated.
On Saturday, Pakistan carried out airstrikes inside Afghanistan, claiming it targeted militant hideouts responsible for a series of suicide bombings in Pakistan. However, Kabul and the United Nations said at least 13 civilians were killed in the strikes.
Islamabad maintains that militant groups are using Afghan territory to plan and launch cross-border attacks. Afghanistan has rejected the allegations, asserting that terrorism is an internal issue for Pakistan.
Taliban Reacts
Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid condemned Pakistan’s airstrikes, calling them an act of terrorism that targeted civilians and violated Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
The border regions have long been a stronghold for Islamist militant outfits, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, also known as the Pakistani Taliban, which has been waging an insurgency against the Pakistani state since 2007.
