Parliament Monsoon Session Begins Today: NEET paper leak, TMC split, Delimitation in focus

Parliament’s Monsoon Session begins today with eight Bills on the government’s agenda but disputes over NEET, Ram Temple donations, E20 petrol and political defections could dominate proceedings.

New Delhi: Parliament’s Monsoon Session begins on Monday, July 20, with the government seeking passage of eight Bills and the Opposition preparing to challenge the Centre over a range of politically sensitive issues.

The session, scheduled to continue until August 13, is expected to witness heated exchanges over the NEET-UG paper leak, alleged irregularities involving Ram Temple donations, the CJP protests at Jantar Mantar, E20 petrol, inflation and rising prices.

Government seeks cooperation

Following Sunday’s all-party meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju appealed to political parties to participate constructively and allow both Houses to function smoothly.

The meeting was attended by 58 leaders representing 40 political parties. The government has listed eight Bills for consideration during the session, while delimitation does not currently appear on the announced legislative agenda. Rijiju said any additional legislation would first be discussed in the Business Advisory Committee.

Delimitation remains a political flashpoint

Despite its absence from the listed agenda, delimitation is expected to remain a major subject of political debate. Opposition parties have warned that any population-based redistribution of Lok Sabha seats could reduce the relative representation of southern states.

The Congress has been coordinating with other opposition parties, including the DMK and AAP, to resist any fresh delimitation proposal.

TMC rebellion adds to tensions

The participation of around 20 rebel TMC MPs associated with the National Citizens Party of India at the all-party meeting has further intensified tensions.

INDIA bloc leaders briefly walked out in protest against the invitation and separate seating provided to the group, arguing that its formal parliamentary recognition remained pending. They later returned, calling the walkout symbolic.

Opposition prepares broader offensive

The Opposition is also expected to demand accountability over the NEET paper leak, education-sector concerns, E20 fuel and the alleged misuse of Ram Temple donations.

With legislative business competing against multiple political controversies, the Monsoon Session is set to become an important test of the government’s floor management and the Opposition’s unity.
