Focus on Strait of Hormuz Tensions

The meeting comes amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime corridor for global oil shipments. The ongoing conflict has disrupted shipping routes and raised concerns over energy supplies and trade flows.

Recent developments, including Iran turning back vessels lacking clearance, have further heightened uncertainty in the region.

Conflict Enters Fourth Week

The West Asia crisis has now entered its fourth week, with continued hostilities affecting multiple countries. The situation intensified following reports of the killing of Ali Khamenei in joint military strikes allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel.

In response, Iran has launched retaliatory attacks targeting US and Israeli-linked assets across Gulf nations, escalating tensions and impacting maritime security.

Government Reviews Preparedness

The Centre is assessing India’s strategic and economic preparedness in light of the unfolding crisis. Key concerns include energy security, safety of Indian nationals in the region, and potential disruptions to global supply chains.

The all-party meeting is expected to build consensus across political lines on the country’s response strategy.

Call for Coordinated Response

A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasised the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and states to manage emerging challenges linked to the crisis.

The ongoing discussions are likely to focus on contingency planning, diplomatic engagement, and measures to cushion the economic impact of the conflict.
