Beijing: During his official visit to Beijing, US President Donald Trump addressed comments attributed to Chinese President Xi Jinping suggesting that the United States is a “declining nation.” Trump said Xi was “100 per cent correct,” but clarified that the statement referred to what he described as damage during the Biden administration.

Trump blames Biden policies for national weakness

In a post on Truth Social, Trump argued that the US suffered significantly under former President Joe Biden, citing issues such as immigration policies, taxation, crime and diversity initiatives. He said these factors contributed to what Xi had referred to in his remarks.

Trump insisted that the interpretation applied only to the previous administration and not his current tenure, claiming the country had since regained strength.

Claims of economic and military revival

The US president asserted that the nation has seen a strong recovery in the first months of his administration. He pointed to rising stock markets, improved retirement savings performance, increased foreign investment and what he called a stronger job market.

He also highlighted military achievements and foreign policy developments, including operations in Iran and evolving relations in Venezuela, describing them as signs of restored American strength.

Remarks on US-China relations and Iran

Trump further said that both Washington and Beijing had discussed global security issues, including Iran’s nuclear ambitions and maritime stability in key shipping routes. He claimed both sides agreed on the importance of preventing nuclear escalation and maintaining open trade corridors.

Strong messaging ahead of future talks

The remarks come amid ongoing high-level discussions between the US and China, where both sides have exchanged views on global power dynamics, economic competition and regional security concerns.

Trump concluded that the United States is now “the hottest nation in the world,” expressing optimism that relations with China could improve further in the coming months.
