Florida: US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a crucial meeting on the Ukraine-Russia war at Mar-a-Lago in Florida on Sunday. ​​Following the meeting, both leaders gave positive signals regarding the peace process during a joint press conference. Zelenskyy stated that 90 percent agreement had been reached on the peace plan, while Trump indicated that an agreement could be possible within a few weeks if conditions were favorable.

During the press conference, Donald Trump described the meeting as “fantastic” and said that significant progress had been made towards ending the Ukraine-Russia war. Trump revealed that he had recently spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin for more than two hours on the phone, during which several important issues were discussed. He said, “I think we’re getting very close, perhaps very close. This war has been one of the deadliest conflicts since World War II, and we’ve made progress towards ending it.”

Agreement possible in a few weeks

When asked about the timeline for the peace process, Trump said, “If everything goes well, it could happen in a few weeks. But if things go wrong, it won’t be possible.” He also acknowledged that some of the “most difficult issues” remain, with the question of territory and occupied areas being the most crucial. According to Trump, reaching an agreement in the current circumstances might be the best option.

Zelenskyy says 90% agreement on peace plan

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the meeting as very positive. He said that in-depth and productive discussions had taken place on all major issues. According to Zelenskyy, 90 percent agreement has been reached on the 20-point peace plan. In addition, there is 100 percent agreement on US-Ukraine security guarantees and almost complete agreement on the US-Europe-Ukraine security framework.

Zelenskyy stated that full agreement had been reached on the military dimension and security guarantees, which he called a crucial milestone towards lasting peace.
