Iran-US tensions escalate as Tehran launches retaliatory strikes after American attacks on Larak Island (Img: X)
New Delhi: The confrontation between the United States and Iran has escalated again after Tehran launched retaliatory strikes against American military bases in Jordan following a US attack on Iran’s Larak Island.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it carried out a missile and drone attack on US military positions, including the King Hussein and Al Azraq bases in Jordan, in response to the American strike.
The latest exchange marks a sharp rise in tensions between the two countries after a month-long pause in military hostilities.
The crisis began when US forces targeted two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island. Washington said Iranian Revolutionary Guard personnel were preparing to launch rockets carrying sea mines into the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
A US military official said American forces were monitoring the region and remained prepared to protect commercial shipping through the key maritime route.
Following the Larak Island strike, Iran vowed retaliation. The IRGC said the attack would be answered and later announced a combined missile and drone operation against US bases in Jordan.
Iran described the operation as "Punishment of the Aggressor" and claimed it targeted military infrastructure and fighter deployment areas at the bases.
The Strait of Hormuz has once again emerged as the main battlefield in the escalating confrontation. The narrow waterway is one of the world's most important energy routes, and tensions there have raised concerns over global shipping.
The US has been pushing to maintain commercial movement through the strait, while Iran has continued to challenge American control efforts in the region.
Although the latest US strike appeared limited compared to previous large-scale operations, Iran’s response has increased fears of renewed military escalation.
Both countries have continued issuing warnings, with Washington saying it is ready to protect shipping routes and Tehran threatening further responses if attacks continue.
The latest strikes could open another dangerous chapter in the ongoing US-Iran confrontation, with the situation around the Strait of Hormuz being closely watched globally.
