Damascus: The US military has launched a major military operation against the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization in Syria. US Central Command (CENTCOM) claims to have destroyed dozens of ISIS targets in a massive airstrike. This action was carried out under Operation Hawkeye Strike, which aims to weaken the terrorist network operating in Syria and prevent future attacks.

Official information provided on social media

CENTCOM shared information on the social media platform X, stating that the airstrike took place at approximately 12:30 p.m. US time. The strikes precisely targeted ISIS targets in various areas of Syria. According to the US military, the operation was pre-planned and utilized modern weapons and technology.

A Strong Message Against Terrorism

CENTCOM stated that this operation symbolizes America's continued commitment to combating terrorism. The primary objective of this operation is to prevent potential terrorist attacks on US troops and allied forces, eliminate future threats, and maintain stability in the region. The US military has stated unequivocally that anyone attempting to harm its soldiers, wherever they are, will be found and retaliated against.

Operation Intensifies After Palmyra Attack

Operation Hawkeye Strike was launched on December 19, 2025, at the direction of then-President Donald Trump. This decision was made following the ISIS attack in the Palmyra region of Syria on December 13, 2025, which killed two US soldiers and an American civilian. The soldiers killed belonged to the Iowa National Guard and were deployed to the Middle East earlier this year.

Over 90 Precision Munitions, 35 Bases Destroyed

CNN reports that more than 90 precision munitions were used in the operation, targeting more than 35 terrorist bases. More than two dozen fighter jets participated in the strikes. US officials say the operation is part of the ongoing strategy under Operation Inherent Resolve (the international military effort against ISIS).

Operations may intensify further

Military experts believe that this major airstrike has dealt a serious blow to the terrorist network operating in Syria. Furthermore, the US and its allies may further intensify such operations against ISIS in the coming days.
