Washington: Out of 15 people on board the cargo ship named MV AMIR1, 13 are Indian citizens, who are currently facing a very perilous situation due to the constant attacks of drones and missiles at the Chornomorsk port of Ukraine.
According to FSUI, the crew is in a highly unsafe situation due to the continuous strikes reported around the Black Sea port. As per the union, the crew members are onboard at a constant risk of getting caught in the crossfire of the ongoing war.
FSUI has called upon the Indian government, the ship owners, and the flag state of the vessel to take urgent actions towards ensuring the safety of the crew members and evacuating them out of the conflict area.

The union has put up a video, believed to be captured by the crew members on the ship, depicting the rising smoke around the port, thus indicating that the security situation around there is highly volatile. It has been made clear by the union that Indian seafarers should not be put at risk in the war zones.
Up till now, no official response has come from India’s Ministry of External Affairs or from the ship owners.

It is also being reported in light of the recent protest by India following the death of an Indian seafarer during an attack on a merchant ship in the Black Sea. The matter was brought up to the ambassador of Ukraine with serious concerns being raised about the security of ships in the area due to ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
