Xi Urges Trump To Cooperate On Global Challenges (Img: X/WhiteHouse)
Washington: Chinese President Xi Jinping urged for greater cooperation between China and the United States. He told US President Donald Trump that the interests of the two countries are “deeply intertwined” and that there is “plenty of room” for them to work together.
“We should cooperate with sincerity," Xi said during his meeting with Trump at the White House.
“The interests of China and the United States are deeply intertwined, and there is plenty of room for us to work together," he said.
Xi acknowledged that cooperation between Beijing and Washington would not resolve every challenge facing the world, but said many global issues would be difficult to tackle without coordination between the two countries.
“China-U.S. cooperation may not solve every problem in the world, but without our cooperation, it would be hard to solve many of the world’s problems," Xi said.
Xi's remarks came as he and Trump held talks at the White House on trade, artificial intelligence and other contentious issues in the China-US relationship.
The White House had said Xi’s September 24 visit would be his first return to the White House in more than a decade.
Xi also underlined the importance of cooperation between China and the US in artificial intelligence, noting that both countries are among the leading nations in the field.
“Both China and the United States are leading nations in artificial intelligence," Xi said.
He said Beijing and Washington have both the capability and responsibility to ensure that AI is developed and managed in a way that benefits people.
“We have both the capability and responsibility to develop and manage AI for good and ensure that the development of AI is always under human control and serves the well-being of the people," Xi said.
