New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday held a telephonic conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, discussing the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its wider implications.
Jaishankar said the two leaders exchanged views on the evolving situation and its “many repercussions”. The conversation comes amid intensifying hostilities in the region, which have begun to impact global energy supply chains and markets.

India has been actively engaging with multiple stakeholders, including Israel, Iran, and Gulf countries, since the conflict began on February 28. The government has consistently emphasised the need for dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions and restore stability.

At a media briefing, the Ministry of External Affairs said India remains in close contact with countries in the region to safeguard its energy interests.
The ongoing conflict has disrupted shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for global oil and gas supplies. The blockade has triggered volatility in international energy markets and raised concerns over supply continuity.
Officials noted that sustained diplomatic engagement has helped secure safe passage for Indian vessels in the region. In recent developments, two LPG carriers successfully navigated through the Strait following coordinated efforts with regional stakeholders.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the situation as a “testing time” for both India and the global community. He said Indian leadership has been in regular contact with international counterparts to address the crisis and mitigate its impact.
The conflict, triggered by US-Israel strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliation by Tehran, has escalated into a wider regional crisis. Attacks on key infrastructure and military targets have heightened concerns over prolonged instability.
India continues to advocate for de-escalation while balancing its strategic and economic interests in the region.
