Article 370 Abrogation 7th Anniversary (Img: X)
Srinagar: Security has been intensified across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, with authorities implementing a multi-layered security arrangement across the Union Territory.
Intelligence agencies, police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and other security agencies have beefed up surveillance and vehicle checks and increased patrols in sensitive areas to ensure peace and order.

There has been a deployment of security forces at major highways, districts, markets, and other vulnerable spots. Checkpoints have been established at the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) where vehicle and identity checks are being done.
Further, there has been an improvement in the security situation along the borders and sensitive areas. Quick Response Teams (QRTs), bomb squads and sabotage teams have been placed in the sensitive places as part of the preventive measure.
As per the officials, security agencies are maintaining a vigil to avoid any disruption during the events of the anniversary celebrations.
The increased security is taking place following protests scheduled by political parties after the August 5, 2019 order to strip Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and carve out two new Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The National Conference is holding a protest rally outside its office in Jammu, while the Congress party is organising one at Shaheedi Chowk in support of restoring the statehood and constitutional guarantees with regard to land, employment and resource.

Rattan Lal Gupta, a prominent leader from the National Conference, described the August 5 date as a "dark day" in the history of Jammu and Kashmir constitutionally.
Article 370 and Article 35A were abrogated on August 5, 2019, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi through which the special constitutional status granted to the erstwhile state was revoked. This state was subsequently carved out into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
According to the government, this step ensured rapid development in the region along with enhanced security and tourism but the opposition political parties have been asking for the restoration of the statehood.
