US President Donald Trump hinted at stronger action against Iran and questioned allies’ role in securing the Strait of Hormuz, while criticizing NATO for refusing to join ongoing military operations.
His remarks come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East
Washington: US President Donald Trump has indicated the possibility of stronger action against Iran, while questioning the role of allied nations in ensuring security in the Strait of Hormuz. His remarks come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and ongoing military developments involving Iran.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump suggested that decisive action against Iran could prompt allied nations to take greater responsibility in securing key global trade routes. He made a pointed reference to the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for global oil shipments, implying that countries dependent on the route should play a larger role in its security.
Trump also reiterated his long-standing position on Iran, describing it as a major sponsor of terrorism and stating that the United States was taking steps to counter its influence.
The US President’s remarks followed his criticism of NATO, which he said had declined to participate in military operations involving Iran. Trump described the alliance’s stance as a “foolish mistake,” expressing disappointment that several member countries were unwilling to get directly involved.
According to Trump, the United States had been informed by multiple NATO allies that they did not wish to join the ongoing operations, despite broadly agreeing with the objective of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Trump asserted that the United States had already achieved significant military success in its operations related to Iran. He emphasized that Washington was capable of acting independently and did not require assistance from NATO or other partners.

The President also noted that countries such as Japan, Australia, and South Korea were not involved in the operations, reinforcing his view that the US could manage the situation on its own.
The statements highlight growing divisions among Western allies over how to address the Iran situation. With tensions in the Gulf region remaining high, particularly around vital energy routes, the issue continues to have significant geopolitical and economic implications.
