Three Decades of Legal Experience
Barry Pollock's legal career spans more than 30 years. He has successfully defended numerous corporate giants, politicians, and defendants in international cases.
He also played a key role in overturning the conviction of Martin Tankleff in a high-profile case; Tankleff was proven innocent after spending 17 years in prison. It is this experience that led Maduro to choose him as his lead counsel.
Maduro's Wife Has Separate Counsel
According to court documents, Nicolás Maduro's wife, Cilia Flores, is being represented separately. Mark E. Donnelly, a former prosecutor for the US Department of Justice, appeared in court on her behalf.
Donnelly confirmed in court that he would be representing Flores.
Maduro Declares Himself Innocent in Court
During the hearing, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, Nicolás Maduro clearly stated in court that he is innocent and that he was forcibly brought to the United States.
They denied all charges, calling it a kidnapping. Celia Flores also declared her innocence in court.
Next hearing date set
The case is being heard by US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein. The court has set the next hearing date for March 17. It is believed that this case could spark a major controversy in international politics in the coming days.
