New Delhi: Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, Israel has taken a tough stance on Iran's new leadership. Israel Katz, in a post on the social media platform X, stated that whoever becomes Iran's new Supreme Leader will be a target of Israel. His statement comes at a time when the process of regime change is underway in Tehran.

The Israeli Defense Minister said in his statement that any Iranian leader who continues to pursue a policy of destroying Israel or spreading instability in the region will face serious consequences.

Mojtaba Khamenei becomes new Supreme Leader

Meanwhile, the Tehran-based Assembly of Experts has announced the election of 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei as the country's new Supreme Leader. Mojtaba is the eldest son of the late former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Speculation about the new leadership had intensified since the recent death of Ali Khamenei in US and Israeli attacks. In this context, Mojtaba's selection is being considered a major development in Iranian politics.

Discussion of IRGC support

According to media reports, Mojtaba received strong support from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which bolstered his candidacy. Although Mojtaba has not held any prominent religious position, he is considered influential in the corridors of power.

His appointment has sparked a debate about dynasticism, as the Islamic Republic has long criticized hereditary rule.

Regional tensions and increased uncertainty

Israel's open warning has further escalated tensions in the region. The transfer of power from father to son is generally considered unacceptable in Shia religious tradition, making this decision even more controversial.

Analysts believe that the direction Iran's policies will take under Mojtaba Khamenei's leadership will become clear in the coming days. Currently, the situation in West Asia remains extremely sensitive.
