Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh and stark warning to Iran amid escalating unrest and sharp exchanges between the two countries. Speaking in an interview with News Nation, Trump warned that Iran could face devastating consequences if the situation spirals further, saying the “whole country is going to get blown up” should anything happen to US interests.

Trump’s Warning to Tehran

Responding to Iran’s recent “all-out war” threat, Trump said he has already issued clear notifications to Iranian authorities. “I’ve left notification. If anything ever happens… the whole country is going to get blown up,” the US president stated, underscoring his hardline stance.

Iran President warns US; Says aggression against Khamenei means full-scale war

Trump’s remarks come just days after he openly called for a regime change in the Islamic Republic, intensifying tensions at a time when Iran is grappling with widespread protests and mounting casualties.

Iran Threatens Retaliation Over Supreme Leader

Iran swiftly responded to Trump’s comments with a warning of its own. Tehran cautioned the US against any action targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowing severe retaliation.

“Trump knows that if any hand of aggression is extended toward our leader, we will not only cut that hand but also set fire to their world,” said Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi, spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces, as reported by the Associated Press.

The warning follows Trump’s earlier remarks to Politico, in which he described Khamenei as “a sick man who should run his country properly and stop killing people.”

Unrest in Iran: Rising Death Toll

Trump’s statements come against the backdrop of intensifying unrest across Iran. Protests erupted in the last week of December, driven by surging inflation, unemployment, and the sharp decline of the Iranian rial.

According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, at least 4,519 people have been killed in the protests so far, while more than 26,300 individuals have been arrested. Demonstrators have taken to the streets in large numbers, demanding political reforms and, in some cases, the end of the current regime.

Tehran Blames Foreign Interference

Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of fueling the unrest and inciting violence. Officials claim foreign intelligence agencies are exploiting economic hardships to destabilize the country.

As tensions rise, Trump’s rhetoric and Iran’s counter-warnings have heightened fears of a broader confrontation, with global observers closely watching whether the escalating war of words could translate into direct conflict.
