Mumbai: A major and tragic road accident occurred in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, on Monday night. A BEST bus crushed several people while reversing in the Bhandup West station road area. Four people died on the spot in the accident, while 10 others were seriously injured. The incident caused chaos and panic in the area.
According to information received from the police, the accident was reported at around 10:05 PM. It is reported that the BEST bus driver was reversing the bus when he lost control, and the bus collided with passengers and pedestrians. The station road area was crowded at the time of the accident, as a large number of people were returning home from work.

Upon receiving the information, the police, Mumbai Fire Brigade, BEST employees, and 108 ambulances reached the spot. A rescue operation was launched, and the injured were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals. The police had to work hard to control the crowd. Police and fire brigade teams remained at the scene and brought the situation under control.
Four people died after being run over by the bus in the accident. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. All the injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment, where a team of doctors is monitoring their condition.
According to the information, the injured and deceased were taken to Rajawadi BMC Hospital and M.T. Agarwal Hospital. At Rajawadi Hospital, a 31-year-old unidentified woman was brought in dead, while 51-year-old Prashant Lad remains in critical condition. Three other people were declared dead at M.T. Agarwal Hospital. Nine injured people are currently receiving treatment.

It is noteworthy that exactly one year ago, in December 2024, a BEST bus crushed about 30 people on the Kurla West railway station road. Four people died and 26 were injured in the accident. The bus's brakes had failed at the time, and the driver lost control.
Following the Bhandup accident, the police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. This incident once again raises serious questions about the safety of public transport in Mumbai and the negligence of bus drivers.
