New Delhi/Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the names of four candidates ahead of the biennial elections for seven Rajya Sabha seats from Maharashtra. The party's Central Election Committee approved these names.
According to a press release issued by the BJP, the list released from the Central Office, New Delhi, lists Ramdas Athawale, Vinod Tawde, Maya Chintaman Inwate, and Ramrao Vadkute as candidates.
Ramdas Athawale is a prominent leader of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) and Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment in the Central Government. He has been a long-time ally of the NDA and is currently a Rajya Sabha MP. The party has once again expressed confidence in him and nominated him as its candidate.
Vinod Tawde has served as a minister in the Maharashtra government and is currently the National General Secretary of the BJP. Given his active role in the organization, the party has nominated him for the Rajya Sabha.
A total of seven Rajya Sabha seats are falling vacant in Maharashtra this year. The BJP has currently announced four names, while candidates for the remaining seats are yet to be announced. It is believed that the party will finalize additional names in the coming days.
Political analysts say that political activity has intensified in the state regarding the Rajya Sabha elections. All parties are busy selecting their candidates.
