New Delhi: Top sources confirm to Dynamite News that 1988-batch UP cadre retired IAS officer Navneet Kumar Sehgal has suddenly stepped down as Chairman of Prasar Bharati.

Navneet Kumar was appointed as Chairman of Prasar Bharati in March 2024.

Sehgal superannuated from Civil Services in July 2023 as Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Sehgal has a rich leadership experience of over 35 years heading key departments while driving governance and policy reform initiatives both at Government of India (GOI) and Uttar Pradesh.

He led the team to initiate and execute project developments of tourist places of UP and as Principal Secretary (MSME) spearheaded, "One District One Product" (ODOP) a flagship scheme of the Uttar Pradesh Government.

In 2002, during the SP-BSP coalition government, Mayawati appointed Navneet Sehgal as the District Magistrate of Lucknow. Even after Mayawati's government fell in 2003, he remained in his position in the SP government.

Maintained his status in every Government

Several governments came and went after this, but Navneet Sehgal remained a favorite officer of all governments, including the BSP, SP, and BJP. In Mayawati's government, he served as her secretary and was considered a highly influential officer. His influence continued in Akhilesh Yadav's government as well, remaining her closest and most powerful officer. Navneet Sehgal also served as Principal Secretary of Information in the Yogi government.

There was also widespread speculation about his entry into politics after retirement.

Now, his sudden resignation as Chairman of Prasar Bharati made high speculation in the power corridors. The reason for his resignation has not been revealed yet.
