Murshidabad: In a significant success against cross-border drug smuggling, the Border Security Force recently intercepted a shipment of cocaine along the India-Bangladesh border. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, personnel of the 149th Battalion of the BSF under the South Bengal Frontier recovered 316 grams of cocaine. The estimated international market value of the seized narcotic is around Rs 1.5 crore, highlighting the scale and sophistication of trafficking attempts along the sensitive border.
The operation was initiated after BSF officials received specific intelligence suggesting that illegal drugs were hidden at a residence in Char Binpara village. Acting on these inputs, personnel from the Lovangola Border Outpost conducted a search operation targeting the suspected location. The information indicated that narcotics were concealed inside or around the house, prompting immediate and strategic action by the BSF team.

During a meticulous search of the premises and its surroundings, the BSF team discovered a suspicious packet located approximately two metres away from the house. The search was carried out in the presence of two independent village witnesses to ensure transparency. Upon opening the packet, cocaine was found inside. No arrests were made at the site during the operation. The seized drugs have been handed over to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings as per established procedures.
A spokesperson of the South Bengal Frontier emphasised that BSF personnel continue to remain fully vigilant along the border to prevent smuggling and illegal activities. Continuous surveillance, intelligence gathering, and strategic operations have enabled the force to thwart several major smuggling attempts in recent months. The spokesperson noted that the coordinated efforts send a strong message to drug traffickers and anti-national elements attempting to exploit the porous border.
