New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has written to all states, urging them to reserve 20% of jobs for Agniveers in various government services after completion of their tenure under the Agnipath scheme.
According to official communication, the MHA has recommended that states provide reservation to former Agniveers in key positions such as forest guards, mining guards, police constables, firemen, mounted police, jail wardens, special police officers and personnel in the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The move is aimed at ensuring post-service employment opportunities for Agniveers and utilising their trained skills in maintaining internal security and disaster response systems.
The Ministry of Home Affairs emphasised that Agniveers, having undergone rigorous military training, can significantly contribute to law enforcement and emergency services at the state level.

The proposal is expected to be taken up by state governments for consideration and implementation. If adopted, it could open up substantial employment avenues for thousands of youth who complete their service under the Agnipath scheme.
The initiative also aligns with the Centre’s broader objective of integrating trained personnel into civilian roles while strengthening grassroots security infrastructure across the country.
