MHA announces 50% quota for former Agniveers in BSF constable recruitment

New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) has given a major New Year's gift to former Agniveers. The BSF has increased the post reservation for former Agniveers. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has increased the quota for former Agniveers in BSF constable recruitment from 10 percent to 50 percent.

In fact, the Central Government, in exercise of the powers conferred by clauses (b) and (c) of sub-section (2) of Section 141 of the Border Security Force Act, 1968 (47 of 1968), makes the following rules further to amend the Border Security Force, General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment Rules, 2015. These rules shall be called the Border Security Force, General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruitment (Amendment) Rules, 2025. These rules came into effect from December 18.

What are the rules?
According to the rules, fifty percent of the vacancies in the BSF will be reserved for former Agniveers in each recruitment year, ten percent for ex-servicemen, and up to three percent of the annual vacancies will be reserved for direct recruitment of Combatized Constables (Tradesmen).

In the first phase, recruitment will be conducted by the nodal force for the fifty percent vacancies reserved for former Agniveers. In the second phase, recruitment will be conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for the remaining forty-seven percent vacancies (including ten percent for ex-servicemen) for candidates other than former Agniveers, along with filling any remaining vacancies for former Agniveers in a specific category from the first stage. The number of vacancies for female candidates will be calculated annually by the Director General Border Security Force based on operational requirements.

These exemptions will be granted:
It includes provisions for direct recruitment and age relaxation. Former Agniveers will be completely exempted from the Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). This is because Agniveers have already undergone rigorous training in the army. Therefore, it has been decided to exempt them from the physical tests.
