Uttarkashi: The doors of Gangotri Dham, the main Chardham shrine, were closed on Wednesday during the Abhijit Muhurta (time of the auspicious time) with a ritualistic worship ceremony on the occasion of Annakut.
Following this, the festive palanquin of Mother Ganga departed for Mukhwa (Mukhimath), the winter residence. The palanquin will arrive in Mukhwa on Thursday, where devotees will be able to visit and worship Mother Ganga for the next six months.
Preparations for the closing of the doors of Gangotri Dham began at 8:30 am on Wednesday. First, at the sunrise, Mother Ganga's crown was removed. Meanwhile, devotees visited the Bhoga idol of Mother Ganga. Following this, the doors of Gangotri Dham were closed for devotees to visit during the auspicious time of Amrit Bela, Swati Nakshatra, and Preetiyoga. During this time, the priests performed special prayers and recited the Ganga Lahari.

As the idol of Ganga emerged from the temple sanctum sanctorum, riding on a palanquin, the entire atmosphere reverberated with chants of praise for Mother Ganga. Accompanied by the band of the 14th Rajasthan Rifles and the beats of traditional Dhol Damau, the Doli Yatra departed on foot for its winter residence in Mukhba village at 11:55 AM.
Ganga's Doli will arrive at the Devi temple four kilometers from Mukhba for overnight rest. On the morning of October 23rd, the Doli will return from the Mata Temple to the Ganga Temple at Mukhimnath, where the ritualistic worship of Mother Ganga will be performed for the next six months. Gangotri MLA Suresh Chauhan, former MLA Vijaypal Sajwan, Gangotri Temple Committee President Dharmanand Semwal, Secretary Suresh Semwal, Rajesh Semwal, Pawan Semwal, Sudhanshu, Sub-District Magistrate Shalini Negi, Deputy Superintendent of Police Janak Panwar, Kotwal Bhavana Kainthola, along with pilgrim priests and hundreds of devotees from India and abroad were present on the occasion.

Mother Ganga will be worshipped in Mukhwa
For the next six months, Mother Ganga will be worshipped in Mukhwa. This year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited Mukhwa during his winter pilgrimage and offered prayers to Mother Ganga. The doors of Gangotri Dham were opened for devotees on April 30. This year, more than 7.57 lakh pilgrims visited the Dham. The doors of Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham will be closed on Thursday.
