New Delhi: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several parts of the national capital on Wednesday, bringing much-needed respite from the scorching heat but also disrupting normal life. Intense morning showers led to waterlogging on key roads, traffic congestion and delays in public transport, leaving commuters stranded across several parts of the city.

Rain Brings Down Temperatures

After days of hot and humid weather, the showers brought a noticeable drop in temperatures, offering relief to Delhiites. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain and thunderstorms over the next two days, with cloudy skies expected to persist across the capital.

Traffic Hit as Roads Get Waterlogged

The downpour inundated several low-lying areas, slowing traffic during peak office hours. Major roads witnessed long vehicle queues as water accumulated at key intersections, while commuters reported delays due to reduced visibility and slow-moving traffic. Authorities deployed teams to clear waterlogged stretches and ensure smoother traffic movement.

Flights and Daily Life Affected

The spell of rain also impacted daily life, with commuters facing delays in reaching offices and schools. Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and remain cautious while driving on slippery roads. Civic agencies remained on alert to respond to complaints related to waterlogging and fallen trees.

More Showers Likely

The IMD has predicted intermittent rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the coming days as monsoon activity remains active over north India. Officials have urged people to stay updated with weather advisories, especially those travelling during peak rainfall hours.

While the rain brought welcome relief from the heat, authorities cautioned that continued showers could lead to further waterlogging in vulnerable areas. Civic agencies have been instructed to closely monitor the situation and respond swiftly to any emergencies as the capital experiences an active phase of the monsoon.
