New Delhi: Several parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed rainfall on Monday morning, bringing much-needed relief from persistent heat and humidity. The sudden change in weather offered respite to residents who had been struggling with rising temperatures over the past few days.

India Meteorological Department Forecast: Rain and Strong Winds

According to the IMD, light rainfall accompanied by gusty winds is expected in Delhi on Monday and Tuesday. A yellow alert has been issued for Monday, with wind speeds likely to touch up to 70 kmph. While no alert has been issued for Tuesday, light showers and winds reaching up to 40 kmph are likely.

Officials said the city may experience two spells of rain on Monday  one during the morning hours and another later in the day. Very light rainfall is also possible on Tuesday.

Temperature Drops, But Heat to Return

The rainfall has led to a drop of around 2-3°C in maximum temperatures over the last 24 hours. On Monday, Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to hover between 32°C and 34°C, while on Tuesday it may settle between 31°C and 33°C. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain in the range of 22°C to 25°C.

However, this relief may be short-lived. From Wednesday onwards, temperatures are expected to rise steadily, possibly reaching close to 40°C by May 9.

Earlier Red Alert and Storm Warning

On Sunday evening, IMD had issued a red alert warning of severe thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, dust storms and moderate rainfall. Wind speeds during these conditions were expected to reach up to 80 kmph across several parts of the capital.

Neighbouring Cities to See Similar Conditions

Cities across NCR are likely to experience similar weather patterns. Noida and Gurugram may see partly cloudy skies with occasional rain or thundershowers over the next two days. Ghaziabad is expected to witness intermittent rainfall and cloudy conditions for a longer duration, extending till May 9.
