New Delhi: A massive car blast near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening claimed nine lives and injured twenty people. The explosion occurred around 6.52 pm in a Hyundai i20, shaking the busy heritage area and leaving vehicles mangled across the streets.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as smoke and debris filled the area. Emergency responders, including Delhi Police, fire brigades, and medical teams, quickly reached the spot. Authorities declared a high alert across Delhi, cordoning off the vicinity for investigations.

Within minutes of the blast, Delhi Police Crime Branch and Special Branch teams reached the area. The National Security Guard (NSG), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and forensic experts from the FSL are now examining evidence from the site.
Home Minister Amit Shah, in a video statement, said, “We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and I will visit the blast site and meet the injured.”
Authorities have invoked the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) after early forensic tests and intelligence inputs suggested possible terror links.
