New Delhi: IndiGo is under fire after passengers reported large deductions from refunds following cancelled flights, despite the airline claiming to offer full reimbursement. The budget carrier, owned by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, suspended all flights across India on December 5, 2025, prompting widespread complaints from affected passengers.

Several travellers shared screenshots of refund receipts online, arguing that the airline’s promise of no deductions was not honored. Passengers demanded immediate repayment of the full fare, labelling the airline “misleading” in its refund policy.

Passengers Question Refunds

GreyLabs AI CEO Aman Goel highlighted the issue on X, asking how IndiGo could claim to provide a 100 percent refund while deducting amounts like Rs 8,718 from tickets. “Care to explain the deduction?” he tweeted, tagging IndiGo and posting a copy of the airline’s apology to passengers.

Other travellers echoed similar grievances. Fitness coach Kaustubh Radkar expressed frustration over deductions on a flight rescheduled for December 10. Uththra Sridharan, director at Global Remote Group, said she paid Rs 17,000 for a round trip but found Rs 9,000 deducted from her onward flight fare, questioning IndiGo’s definition of “zero cancellation.”

IndiGo Issues Apology

In response, IndiGo issued a statement with a ‘namaste’ emoji, assuring passengers: “We will ensure that all refunds for your cancellations will be processed automatically to your original mode of payment. We will offer full waiver on all cancellations and reschedule requests for bookings between December 5 to 15, 2025.”

Despite this, several travellers said they still received refunds after deductions and felt misled by the airline’s earlier communication.

Civil Aviation Ministry Orders Inquiry

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu addressed the issue, citing IndiGo’s mismanagement of its crew in light of the new Flight Duty Time Limitation regulations issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. He announced the formation of a committee to investigate the disruption and identify where operational failures occurred.

The minister warned that those responsible for the current situation would be held accountable, signaling potential administrative and regulatory consequences for the airline.

Passenger Frustration Continues

With complaints mounting on social media and customers demanding clarity, the airline faces scrutiny not only over refund deductions but also over the abrupt suspension of flights. Travelers and consumer advocates are closely monitoring how IndiGo resolves these issues to restore trust among its passengers.
