Odisha discovers 10-20 tonnes of gold in 6 districts, potentially reducing India’s gold imports. Mining to boost jobs and state revenue while following eco-rules. A game-changer for local economy and national self-reliance.
Odisha Strikes Gold: 20-Tonne Deposit Found in 6 Districts
Bhubaneswar: Odisha, which is already famous for its mineral wealth, is now in the news due to the discovery of gold. According to the report of the Geological Survey of India (GSI), 10 to 20 tonnes of gold are buried under the land of 6 districts of the state (Deogarh, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Kendujhar, Angul, and Koraput). Now the government is preparing to auction these mines.
What will be the benefits?
New employment opportunities: Local people will get jobs in mining and related works.
State income will increase: The Odisha government will get thousands of crores of rupees from the sale of gold.
Benefit to the country: India imports 700-800 tonnes of gold every year. Odisha's gold will reduce this dependence and save foreign currency.
Government's preparation
The Odisha government, Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and GSI are working together to rapidly commercialize this discovery. First of all, the first gold mining block in Deogarh district is being prepared for auction. Detailed drilling and sampling is being done from G3 to G2 level, so that the quality of the reserves and the possibility of extraction can be determined.
Economic impact
Precautions are also necessary
The government has said that mining work will be done according to environmental rules and the interests of the local people will be taken care of.
Understand in simple language
Gold rocks have been found in the land of Odisha, which can be extracted and sold. This discovery can prove to be a boon for the country, as India will not have to depend on foreign countries to buy gold. The government's goal is that mining should not harm nature and also benefit the local people. This gold of Odisha will strengthen the economy of not only the state but the entire country.
If this treasure is practically extracted, then infrastructure, employment and services will expand in the area. India's import dependence on gold will reduce a bit. Odisha can be identified not only as a hub of iron ore and bauxite, but also of gold. Odisha already has a treasure of 96% of India's chromite, 52% bauxite and 33% iron ore. Now the discovery of gold will add a new milestone to this list.
Emphasis on environment and local interests
The government has made it clear that mining work will be done under environmental standards. Also, full attention will be given to the rehabilitation and development of the affected villages and local people.
