New Delhi: After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, tension between India and Pakistan has reached its peak. 26 people died in this attack, for which India has held Pakistan responsible. India has stopped the Indus Water Treaty and canceled the visas of Pakistani citizens, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Pakistan has rejected these allegations, but threats of nuclear attack have also come from its side. In such a situation, the question arises that if a war breaks out between the two countries, then which countries of the world will stand in whose favor? Let's analyze it.
Who will support India?
In the last decade, India has strengthened its position at the global level, and now it has joined the major powerful countries of the world. After the Pahalgam attack, most countries have shown solidarity with India. In such a situation, which countries can support India in the event of war?
1. US: The defense and strategic partnership between the US and India has strengthened in recent years, especially through the QUAD. The US considers India an important ally in the Indo-Pacific region. After the Pahalgam attack, US President Donald Trump called it 'a long-standing problem' but also showed his support for India. In the event of war, the US can provide diplomatic support, intelligence, and military assistance to India, although direct military intervention is unlikely.
2. Russia: India and Russia have decades-old strong defense ties. India has purchased advanced weapons like the Sukhoi-30 and S-400 from Russia. Russia openly supported India in the 1971 war. Russia can supply weapons to India and provide political support in the United Nations during the war.
3. France: France has been supplying Rafale fighter jets and other military equipment to India. The two countries have strong defense agreements. French President Emmanuel Macron had a phone conversation with India after the Pahalgam attack. France can provide military assistance and diplomatic support to India during the war.
4. Israel: Defense and technical cooperation between India and Israel is quite strong. Israel provided drones and night-vision equipment to India in the 1999 Kargil War. Israel can provide military technology and intelligence support to India in case of war.
5. Japan and Australia: As members of the Quad, Japan and Australia have strong strategic ties with India. These countries support India to balance China's aggression. These countries can provide diplomatic and economic support to India in times of war.
6. United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia: In recent years, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have increased economic and counter-terrorism cooperation with India. These countries' relations with Pakistan have been tense. These countries can provide political and economic support to India in case of war.
7. Afghanistan: India has invested heavily in infrastructure and education in Afghanistan. Given the differences between the Taliban and Pakistan, Afghanistan can provide regional intelligence and diplomatic support to India.
Who will support Pakistan?
India has taken tough measures against Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack and has tried to isolate it internationally. Pakistan has been accused of supporting terrorism, due to which the number of countries supporting it is limited. Nevertheless, in case of war, Pakistan can get support from the following countries:
1. China: China is Pakistan's biggest military and diplomatic ally. Ambitious projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) are underway between the two countries. Recently China has provided missiles and other military equipment to Pakistan. However, China refrained from direct intervention in the wars of 1965 and 1971. China may provide arms and intelligence support to Pakistan during a war but is less likely to get directly involved in a war given its trade relations with India ($136.2 billion in 2023).
2. Turkey: Turkey has increased military cooperation with Pakistan in recent years. There are reports on social media that Turkey has sent military material to Pakistan. Turkey may provide arms and diplomatic support to Pakistan during a war.
3. Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC): Pakistan plays an active role in the OIC. Some Muslim countries like Malaysia or Iran may support Pakistan diplomatically but are less likely to get directly involved in a war given the economic relations of these countries with India.
Countries that remain neutral
1. North Korea: Nuclear and missile technology was exchanged between North Korea and Pakistan in the 1970s-1990s, but their relations are not that strong at present. North Korea also adopts a neutral stance with India. North Korea may remain neutral during a war.
2. Bangladesh: Despite gaining independence in 1971 with the help of India, the policies of the current government of Bangladesh are unclear. There have been some anti-India statements, but full support from Pakistan is unlikely.
