New Delhi/Washington DC: Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Wednesday hosted Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi at India House ahead of his scheduled engagements in Washington DC.

In a post on X, India in the US stated that the visit comes soon after recent visits by the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) and Chief of Air Staff (CAS), highlighting the continued momentum in high-level military-to-military exchanges between the two countries.

The post added that the engagements are expected to further strengthen defence cooperation, a key pillar of the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership, with a shared objective of ensuring a “free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”

Army Chief’s Strategic Talks in Hawaii

Earlier on April 21, General Dwivedi held discussions with General Ronald P. Clark, Commanding General of the United States Army Pacific, along with senior US military officials in Honolulu.

The talks focused on enhancing defence cooperation, improving interoperability, and advancing a shared vision for peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.

During his visit, General Dwivedi was accorded a Guard of Honour at Fort Shafter in Hawaii. He also undertook an aerial tour of Oahu Island, where he reviewed aspects of the US Army’s training infrastructure and multi-domain operational readiness.

According to the Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), the engagements centred on strengthening India-US defence cooperation and deepening mutual understanding of operational capabilities.

Air Force Leadership Dialogue Reinforces Partnership

The Army Chief’s visit follows a series of high-level military exchanges earlier this month between India and the United States Air Forces.

On April 8, US Air Force Chief of Staff General Kenneth Wilsbach hosted Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh in Washington DC for an official counterpart visit.

Air Chief Marshal Singh received a full honours arrival at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and later held meetings with US Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink and General Wilsbach at the Pentagon.

Discussions focused on interoperability, joint training, and strengthening regional deterrence in the Indo-Pacific.

US Reaffirms Commitment to Defence Partnership

US Air Force leadership reiterated that its defence partnership with India remains central to maintaining a “free, open, peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.”

Wilsbach also praised India’s participation in multilateral military exercises with like-minded partners, noting that expanding such cooperation would be crucial for enhancing regional stability and deterrence.

Expanding Strategic Convergence

The back-to-back engagements across the Army, Navy, and Air Force underscore the growing strategic convergence between India and the United States, with both sides continuing to expand cooperation in training, operations, and regional security initiatives across the Indo-Pacific.
