Srinagar: An Army jawan allegedly died by suicide late Sunday night at an Army camp in Jammu Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Officials said a soldier identified as Lance Naik Bhawar Lal Saran from Rajasthan shot himself with his service rifle during the night hours at Gulmarg. The body was later taken to a medical facility.
The cause behind the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, they said.
Authorities have initiated proceedings under relevant sections. (With inputs from agencies)
Earlier on 6 June a Special Police Officer (SPO) saved a woman from drowning in the Jhelum river in Srinagar after she attempted to take her own life.
The SPO, Irfan Hajam, the driver of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) MR Ganj, recently saved a woman’s life after she attempted to jump into the river Jhelum near Khankah-e-Moula.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman jumped into the river in an apparent suicide attempt.
Immediate efforts were made by nearby volunteers to rescue her, but they were unable to reach her in time.
“Upon the directions of SDPO MR Ganj, Irfan displayed exceptional bravery by responding to the unfolding situation in the nick of time. Without hesitation, he jumped into the river and rescued the woman, bringing her to safety,” police said.
She was immediately provided with first aid and later shifted to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
This heroic action of the SPO averted a tragic incident. Authorities have commended his valour and professionalism.
Earlier a heart-wrenching incident in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh shook two families.
Priyanshu Paswan, 15-year-old son of Bhola Paswan, resident of Khutbhar village of Badhalganj police station area and another teenager of Bhirwa village of Deoria district died due to drowning in Rapti river.
This tragic accident happened on Tuesday when both the teenagers went to take bath in the river.
According to the information, Priyanshu Paswan and another teenager of Bhirwa village had gone to take bath on the banks of Rapti river with their friends.
Both the teenagers who entered the river to get relief from the heat, unknowingly went into the deep water.
Due to the strong current and lack of knowledge of the depth, both started drowning.
