Last Sawan Somwar: Thousands of devotees throng Shiva Temples to seek blessings

Devotees are offering bel leaves, dhatura, milk, honey and Gangajal to Shivling. Especially, anointing with raw milk brings good luck, health and prosperity in life.

New Delhi: Today is the fourth and last Monday of Sawan month. On this auspicious occassion a large number of devotees are flocking at Shiva Temples across the country to offer prayers and seek blessings of Bhole Baba.

On this day devotees are offering bel leaves, dhatura, milk, honey and Gangajal to Shivling. Especially, anointing with raw milk brings good luck, health and prosperity in life.

Shree Gauri Shankar Temple

In Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta offered prayers at the Shri Vednath Mahadev Temple in Ashok Vihar. A large number of people also visited the Shree Gauri Shankar Temple, which was significant for the last Sawan Somwar, where prasad and bhajans were offered.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Long lines of devotees were seen outside the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi from early morning. The temple management, along with local authorities, welcomed the devotees by showering flower petals on them as part of a special greeting. The day started with the Mangala Aarti, and strong security and crowd control measures were put in place to ensure smooth access for all.

Baba Mukteshwar Nath Temple

In Uttar Pradesh, many devotees gathered at the Baba Mukteshwar Nath temple in Gorakhpur to mark the end of the Sawan rituals.

A big crowd was present at the Shri Mankameshwar Mahadev temple in Prayagraj, where devotees offered milk, bel leaves, and water to the Shivling.

Shiv Ganga Temple

At the Shiv Ganga temple in Moradabad and the Dudheshwar Nath Mahadev temple in Ghaziabad, worshippers performed special bathing rituals and chanted mantras all day.

Babulnath Temple

Devotees crowded the Babulnath temple in Mumbai. In Mumbai, people faced the monsoon rains to visit the historic Babulnath temple. The temple area was full of the chants of "Har Har Mahadev" as rituals and offerings continued late into the evening.

Sawan Somwar Significance

According to the Hindu calendar, every Monday during the month of Sawan is connected to respect, self-control, and worship of Shiva. People believe that if they fast on this day and offer water, milk, belpatra, and other things to the Shivlinga with care and devotion, they can get rid of all their problems and sins in life. This fast is especially good for married women, those who want to have children, and people who are trying to achieve success. It is also thought that fasting on Sawan Monday can take away bad effects from the planets and bring good energy from them.
