LIC announces relaxations on claim settlements of Ahmedabad crash victims

Mumbai: LIC of India expressed deep grief over the death of on-board passengers and crew members of Air India flight AI 171 and also people on the ground who were killed due to the plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

LIC Statement

In a statement on Friday, LIC said it is committed to supporting those affected and will expedite claim settlements to provide financial relief.

The Insurance company announced many concessions to mitigate the hardships of the claimants of LIC Policies.

Rules Relaxations

Instead of death certificates, any evidence in Government Records of the death of the policyholder due to the plane crash or any compensation paid by the Central/State Government /Airline Authorities will be accepted as proof of death.

All efforts will be taken to ensure that the claimants are reached out to and claims are settled expeditiously for the affected families.

Ahmedabad Plane Crash

The tragedy occurred on Thursday afternoon when the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner went down just two minutes after takeoff. The aircraft was carrying 242 passengers, including 12 crew members. Among the deceased was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

169 Indian Citizens

The passengers included 169 Indian citizens, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. Ramesh Vishwas, a British citizen of Indian origin, is the sole survivor and is currently receiving medical treatment.

24 Killed On The Ground

Besides those onboard, at least 24 people, including four medical students, were killed on the ground, as the plane crashed into the hostel building of the B J Medical College in Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad.

PM Meets Lone Survivor

Modi, after reviewing the situation at the crash site, had proceeded to the hospital to meet the injured and check on their condition. The Prime Minister also met Ramesh Vishwas, the only survivor of the crash, and inquired about his health. He also checked on the well-being of other injured individuals.

Home Minister Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah who visited the site last evening to review the situation has asked for a probe into the incident. A high-level committee has already been set up to oversee the inquiry.
