New Delhi: With the onset of March, heatwaves have begun to intensify in many parts of the country. Temperatures are rising rapidly in many states, including North India, and mercury has already reached 35 degrees Celsius in several cities. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pilani in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district recorded the highest temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius, which is considered quite high for this season. The Meteorological Department says that there is little chance of relief from the heat for the next three days.
According to the Meteorological Department, maximum temperatures were recorded between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius in Rajasthan, southern Haryana, southwest Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, central India, and several parts of South India. Maximum temperatures in most other parts of the country remained between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius. Scientists say that temperatures remain above normal in many areas, making people face intense heat even in early March.

The heat wave isn't limited to the plains. Temperatures in the western Himalayan regions have also been recorded well above normal. Temperatures in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have been recorded 5 to 8 degrees Celsius higher. The intense sunshine is causing problems for locals and tourists even in the hilly areas.
According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures are rising rapidly due to dry winds in northwest India. Minimum temperatures in many places are also above normal. Night temperatures in northwest India ranged from 14 to 18 degrees Celsius. In western, eastern, and northeastern India, they ranged from 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, and in southern India, they ranged from 22 to 27 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is developing over northwest India. Its impact could change the weather in the hilly areas in the coming days. Light rain and snowfall are expected in Jammu and Kashmir between March 7 and 12. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may also experience light rain during this time.
Thunderstorms, rain, and lightning are expected in several states in eastern India. Odisha may experience light to moderate rain and strong winds of up to 40–50 kmph between March 7 and 9. Jharkhand may experience changes in weather between March 8 and 9, and Bihar between March 9 and 11.
The states of northeastern India - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura- are also expected to experience thunderstorms and thunderstorms between March 9 and 12.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a heat wave warning in some areas. Heat wave-like conditions may develop in some parts of Himachal Pradesh on March 8.
