MEA: US grants 6-month waiver from sanctions on Chabahar Port projec

New Delhi: A press conference was held by the Ministry of External Affairs in the capital, Delhi, where Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal issued statements on several issues. He stated that the US has granted India a six-month waiver from sanctions on the Chabahar Port project. He also addressed the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

US Relief to India

Tensions between the US and India appear to be easing. Relations between India and the US had become strained due to Russia's purchase of crude oil. However, US President Donald Trump has now granted India a significant relief by granting a six-month waiver from sanctions on the Chabahar Port project, as announced in a press conference by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Negotiations for a trade agreement continue
The Ministry of External Affairs announced on Thursday (October 30) that the US has granted India a six-month waiver from US sanctions on the Chabahar Port project. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also stated that India's negotiations with the US for a trade agreement are ongoing. At a media briefing in Delhi on the India-US trade talks, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said, "Discussions with the US side to conclude a trade agreement are ongoing and will continue." He added that India is studying the impact of the recent US sanctions on Russian oil companies.

He said, "We are studying the impact of the recent US sanctions on Russian oil companies. Our decisions naturally take into account the changing dynamics of the global market." Randhir Jaiswal further stated that as far as the US sanctions on Russian companies are concerned, we are studying the impact on us. Fuel purchase decisions are made based on the needs of our 1.4 billion people.

Statement on Indians Deported from the US
Regarding reports of Indians being deported from the US, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "Since January this year, more than 2,790 Indian nationals who did not meet the criteria were residing there illegally. We confirmed their identity and nationality, and they were returned. This is the situation as of Wednesday. Around 100 Indian nationals have been deported by the UK this year after their nationality was confirmed."

Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "Pakistan is infuriated by Afghanistan's exercise of sovereignty over its territory. Pakistan believes it has the right to continue carrying out cross-border terrorism with impunity. As far as India is concerned, we are committed to Afghanistan's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence."
