Crude Oil Tanker MT Flora From Oman Reaches Odisha's Paradip Port
New Delhi: A crude oil tanker carrying around 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of unrefined oil from Oman has reached Paradip Port in Odisha, providing a boost to India’s energy supply amid ongoing tensions in West Asia. The vessel, MT Flora, marks a key shipment at a time when global oil logistics are under strain.
The arrival comes as energy supply chains face disruptions following Iran’s restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for global oil trade. Despite the challenges, India has managed to secure the passage of its vessels through diplomatic engagement, ensuring continuity in imports of crude oil and natural gas.

This shipment is considered particularly significant as it is among the first to reach Paradip during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which has heightened concerns over global oil availability and pricing.
Industry sources said the arrival of MT Flora will support refinery operations and help meet domestic fuel demand. Paradip Port remains a critical hub for oil handling in eastern India, playing a key role in maintaining steady supply to multiple regions.
The delivery also reflects India’s broader strategy of diversifying energy sources to reduce dependence on any single region during geopolitical uncertainties.
Alongside MT Flora, several other energy shipments have recently reached Indian ports. The tanker Jag Laadki, carrying over 80,000 metric tonnes of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates, docked at Mundra Port in Gujarat.

Additionally, LPG carriers such as Nanda Devi and Shivalik have arrived at ports in Gujarat, transporting significant quantities of liquefied petroleum gas. These shipments underline continued efforts to maintain stable energy inflows despite regional instability.
The steady arrival of oil and gas shipments highlights India’s efforts to safeguard its energy needs during a volatile period in global markets. With tensions in key transit routes persisting, such deliveries are crucial for preventing supply disruptions and stabilising domestic fuel availability.
