Khandwa: At least 13 children were admitted to the hospital here in Khandwa on Sunday after being bitten by stray dogs, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

According to a health official, all the children are under 10 years of age and belong to Khan Wali Shah area of the city.

Besides children a 60-year-old woman was also attacked by the dog.

'All the children were admitted to the surgical ward of the hospital and are receiving treatment for their injuries, said the Resident Medical Officer ML Kalame. He said that all the children are in stable condition and doing well.

Kalame further said that in all 14 cases have been reported after stray dog ​​attacks in Khandwa. Apart from 13 children, a 60-year-old woman has also been admitted as she was also attacked by the dog.

Regarding the intensity of the dog bite, nine children received category three bite marks, and the remaining five children are in category two bite. They are under treatment and now all of them are out of danger.

Regularly vaccinating dogs against rabies is crucial for preventing the spread of the disease. Avoid aggressive or unfamiliar dogs, and always supervise children around dogs. Seek prompt medical attention for any dog bite, especially if it's deep, bleeding heavily, or shows signs of infection. If bitten by a potentially rabid animal, seek post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), which includes wound cleaning, rabies vaccination, and rabies immunoglobulin (RIG).

First Aid for Dog Bites

Thoroughly clean the wound with soap and water. Then apply pressure to the wound to stop bleeding. Consult a doctor for evaluation and treatment, especially if the bite is severe or shows signs of infection.
