Organised across various cities under the National Legal Services Authority, it focuses on helping citizens resolve minor legal matters without having to wait through extended judicial timelines.
The primary purpose of these sessions is to deliver efficient and citizen friendly dispute resolution. Minor traffic related issues often remain pending due to delays in regular courts, and the Lok Adalat aims to address these cases in a single sitting. This approach reduces pressure on the legal system while offering individuals a fair and simplified process for settling their challans.
To participate, individuals must complete an online registration. The registration system is designed to avoid long queues and streamline visitor management at the venue. Citizens need to start by visiting the official website of the National Legal Services Authority. Once there, they can locate the section dedicated to Lok Adalat registration.

Once the application is submitted successfully, applicants receive a token number along with an appointment letter by email or phone. This letter provides essential details such as the date, time and venue for appearing before the Lok Adalat. The Lok Adalat will offer relief on various minor traffic violations. These include overspeeding, riding a two wheeler without wearing a helmet, driving without a seat belt, parking in restricted areas and failing to carry a valid Pollution Under Control certificate. Other eligible challans include driving without a license, not having a valid fitness certificate, ignoring traffic signs, crossing a red light, driving in the wrong lane, using vehicles without number plates and challans issued incorrectly.

Certain serious offences will not be considered for any kind of rebate or settlement. These include driving after consuming alcohol, involvement in hit and run cases, incidents leading to fatalities due to careless driving, underage individuals driving vehicles, participation in illegal racing or high speed trials and using vehicles for unlawful purposes. Challans under court consideration or those issued outside the applicant’s home state are also excluded.
