New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken serious cognizance of the stampede that killed 11 people and injured more than 50 during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) IPL-18 trophy victory outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The complaint filed by the 'BHIM' organization in this case has played an important role in the action of the commission, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Role of BHIM Organization
Bhim Organization demanded an immediate inquiry before the NHRC, underlining administrative negligence and failure in crowd management. The organization emphasized that dead bodies were lying outside the stadium, but the celebrations continued inside. The organization appealed for immediate compensation to the victim families and action against the responsible officials.
NHRC action
The commission took the complaint of the BHIM organization seriously and directed the Bengaluru administration to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 7 days. Also, an order has been issued to investigate the officials who gave permission for the event and the security arrangements.
FIR filed against RCB
An FIR has been filed against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in connection with the stampede that happened yesterday outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The FIR has been filed at the Cubbon Park Police Station, and the action has been taken after 24 hours of the incident.
The FIR alleges criminal negligence against RCB, DNA (event management company), and the Karnataka Cricket Association. It has made serious allegations like Sections 105, 125 (1) (2), 132, 121/1, and 190 r/w 3 (5) for alleged negligence and culpability in the stampede incident.
After RCB won their first IPL title, it was announced that a victory parade would be organized on June 3, 2025. Crowds started gathering outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium from the morning of June 4. The police did not allow the Victory Parade to be held and canceled it after noticing that the crowd was getting too large.
The police also requested to postpone the celebrations to be held at the stadium, as they believed that the team had won the trophy a day before and people were very excited, which could worsen the situation.
RCB, however, wished to hold the event on June 4 itself, as their overseas players were due to return to their country soon. The police had suggested that the event be held on June 8, 2025, but RCB held the event on June 4 instead.
