Omar Abdullah Government Under Fire Over Jobs, Power And Civic Issues

Jammu and Kashmir Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma has demanded a fresh mandate from voters if Omar Abdullah’s government has failed to deliver, raising issues of unemployment, corruption, power tariffs and delayed local elections.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Wednesday demanded that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should step down and seek a fresh public mandate if his government has failed to fulfil its promises.

Sharma made the remarks during a Public Darbar at Dak Bungalow in Baramulla, where he met residents and listened to their concerns related to unemployment, corruption, electricity charges and civic issues. The BJP leader said that if the government was unable to meet public expectations, it should dissolve the Assembly and return to voters.

Statehood Issue Cannot Replace Governance Debate

Sharma accused the National Conference-led government of focusing heavily on the demand for restoration of statehood while, according to him, failing to address other public concerns. He said restoration of statehood remained an important issue, but should not replace discussions around employment, corruption, electricity tariffs and basic administration.

The Leader of Opposition said the government would have to answer questions related to everyday issues faced by people.

Opposition To Raise Issues In Assembly Session

Sharma said the Opposition would strongly raise these matters during the upcoming Assembly session and seek accountability from the government. He highlighted unemployment, governance challenges and public services as issues requiring attention. He also questioned the delay in municipal elections, saying elected local bodies were necessary for improving civic administration and strengthening grassroots accountability.

Residents Raise Local Concerns In Baramulla

During the Public Darbar, residents presented various grievances before the Leader of Opposition. Sharma assured people that matters requiring legislative action would be taken up during Assembly proceedings.

The interaction comes ahead of the Assembly session, where political differences between the ruling National Conference and BJP-led Opposition are expected to intensify.
