Rajasthan Sees Major Progress in Rooftop Solar Installations Under Free Electricity Scheme
New Delhi: Union Minister of State Shripad Yojna Naik informed the Rajya Sabha today that the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna (PMSG: MBY) has benefited a large number of domestic consumers across the country, including Rajasthan. Launched in February 2024, the scheme has so far provided 2,085,514 rooftop solar (RTS) systems across the country, benefiting 2,614,446 households. A total of ₹14,771.82 crore has been disbursed as Central Financial Assistance (CFA).

The Rajasthan government has made special provisions for beneficiaries under the existing Chief Minister's Free Electricity Scheme. Families that have installed RTS plants with a capacity of 1.1 kilowatts or more will receive 150 units of free electricity per month. This initiative is considered important in promoting clean energy in rural and urban areas and reducing household electricity costs.
The process of installing rooftop solar systems and distributing subsidies is progressing rapidly across the country. Central financial assistance helps beneficiaries install and operate the systems.
