The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 3 PM and 2 PM, respectively, due to the ruckus and upheaval created by the opposition over the three controversial bills, which provide a legal framework for the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and ministers of Union Territories from their offices in cases of serious criminal offences against them, presented by the Union Home Minister in the parliament.
Home Minister Amit Shah introduces three Bills in the Lok Sabha
New Delhi: The Monsoon Session of Parliament on Wednesday was extremely tumultuous, with the Lok Sabha proceedings having to be adjourned till 3 pm and the Rajya Sabha till 2 pm. The main reason for this chaos was the three controversial bills introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Home Minister introduced the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025; and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The main objective of these bills is to make a legal provision for the removal of the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Ministers of Union Territories from office in the event of their arrest or detention in serious criminal cases against them.
The opposition fiercely opposed these bills. They alleged that these bills are part of the government's political conspiracy to destabilize the governments of non-BJP-ruled states and target opposition leaders. The protest was so intense that some opposition MPs tore copies of the bills and threw them towards the Home Minister, leading to chaos in the House.
SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav said that the government is sending leaders to jail on false charges and this bill is its new weapon. Congress leader KC Venugopal, referring to the old case of Amit Shah, asked whether he showed morality when he himself was arrested. In response, Shah said that he had voluntarily resigned when he was accused and did not hold any post until the court declared him innocent.
Amid this uproar, the Home Minister recommended sending these bills to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), but the opposition was not satisfied with this either. Also, the government also introduced the Online Gaming Bill, 2025, to regulate online real money gaming platforms.
This entire episode has once again exposed the deep mistrust and confrontation that exists between the government and the opposition. The opposition believes that these steps are against democratic norms, while the government claims that these are to ensure administrative reform and accountability. This political conflict is expected to intensify in the coming days.
