Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Integrated Terminal Building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, marking a milestone in sustainable infrastructure and regional connectivity for Northeast India. 140 metric tons of bamboo have been used in the construction of this terminal, reflecting Assam's biodiversity and cultural heritage. It has been built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore.

Let's learn about the terminal's special features.

The terminal will give a jungle-like feel
The entire terminal has been designed in such a way that passengers will feel like they are in a jungle as soon as they enter.
It is decorated with greenery inspired by Kaziranga National Park, Japi motifs, the famous rhinoceros symbol, and 57 orchid-inspired columns depicting the Kopou flower.

The terminal also features a unique sky forest with nearly one lakh plants of native species to give passengers a jungle-like experience.

The terminal spans 1.4 lakh square meters
The new terminal spans 1.4 lakh square meters and can handle more than 13 million passengers annually. Significant improvements have been made to the runway, airfield system, apron, and taxiways.

This is considered a major step towards strengthening connectivity in Assam. This will not only increase the number of passengers but also create new employment opportunities and strengthen the local economy.

The terminal is equipped with many modern facilities
Along with cultural heritage, the new terminal prioritizes modern technology and digital innovations for passenger convenience.

Body scanners have been installed for security, ensuring faster security checks. Other features include contactless travel powered by DigiYatra, an automated baggage handling system, fast-track immigration, and AI-powered airport operations to ensure efficient passenger movement.

The new terminal will be fully operational by March next year. The Prime Minister said, "This is a great achievement for Assam."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, "The new terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport will be inaugurated on December 20. This is a major achievement for Assam's infrastructure. The increased capacity will mean better 'ease of living' and will also boost trade and tourism."
