President Murmu Approves Online Gaming Regulation Bill 2025

The Government of India has made a historic law completely banning online money gaming games. This bill has been named ‘Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill 2025.’ It has been approved by both the houses of Parliament—Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha—and now President Draupadi Murmu has also given her assent to it, after which it has completely become a law.

New Delhi: The Government of India has made a historic law completely banning online money gaming games. This bill has been named 'Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill 2025.' It has been approved by both the houses of Parliament—Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha—and now President Draupadi Murmu has also given her assent to it, after which it has completely become a law.

What's Banned?

  • The entire ecosystem of real-money online gaming.
  • Games of Skill: Poker, Rummy, Fantasy Sports.
  • Games of Chance: Online casinos, slots, virtual lotteries.

What Else Is Illegal?

  • Advertising: Any promo for a real-money game.
  • Financial Support: Banks and payment gateways cannot process transactions.
  • Hosting: Providing server space or platforms for these games.

The purpose of this new law is to prevent harmful activities like online gambling and gambling, in which people often lose their entire life's earnings. Under this law, if any company or person provides online money games (money gaming), then he may have to face a jail sentence of up to three years and a heavy fine of up to one crore rupees.

Not only this, but if any company advertises these gaming platforms, action will also be taken against it, and it may have to face imprisonment of up to two years and a fine of up to Rs 50 lakh.

This bill was passed very fast in Parliament. The Rajya Sabha passed it in just 26 minutes and the Lok Sabha in just 7 minutes, which shows that all the parties were together on this serious matter.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the Parliament that this law was necessary to stop this evil spread in the society. He said that it is the duty of the government and the Parliament to protect people from such harmful things.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that one of the objectives of this law is to promote e-sports (gaming that does not cost money), while banning gaming that harms society. As soon as this law came into force, big gaming platforms like Dream11 and Winzo announced that they were shutting down their operations in India.

Overall, this step is being considered a huge step towards saving people from financial loss and mental stress.
