New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday made startling claims regarding alleged electoral malpractices in the recently concluded Haryana Assembly elections. Speaking at a press conference, he claimed that the BJP manipulated voter lists and orchestrated a “centralised operation” that converted a potential Congress victory into a narrow defeat.

“Seema, Sweety and Others”- Brazilian Model Allegedly Voted Multiple Times

Rahul Gandhi accused that a Brazilian model was listed under multiple names such as “Seema” and “Sweety” in Haryana’s voter rolls. He claimed that the model’s photograph was used to cast votes at multiple polling booths across the state.

“Congress lost the election by 22,000 votes. Who is this lady? She votes 22 times in Haryana across 10 different booths. She has multiple names. That means this is a centralised operation,” he said. Gandhi further alleged that this was one of 25 lakh such fake entries in the state’s voter list.

He described the incident as part of his so-called “H-bomb” revelations, aimed at exposing what he termed a systematic manipulation of the electoral process.

Allegations of Massive Vote Manipulation

According to Rahul Gandhi, a total of 25 lakh votes were allegedly “stolen” during the Haryana polls. He broke down the figures, claiming 5.21 lakh were duplicate voters, 93,174 were invalid, and 19.26 lakh were “bulk voters.” He asserted that approximately one in eight voters in Haryana’s electoral list is fake.

He cited instances of individuals casting multiple votes using the same photograph, claiming that one person reportedly voted 223 times across two booths. Gandhi questioned the Election Commission’s integrity, asking why such anomalies were not addressed despite the availability of technology to detect duplicate or fake voters.

Questioning the Election Commission and Governance

The Congress leader criticised the Election Commission (EC) for allegedly destroying CCTV footage after elections, suggesting it was part of a cover-up. He also claimed that ahead of the polls, 3.5 lakh voters were removed from the list, alleging the move aimed to favour the ruling BJP.

Gandhi further accused the EC of being complicit with the Prime Minister and Home Minister, claiming a systematic effort to undermine democratic processes in India. He highlighted that the manipulation of elections directly impacts the future of India’s youth, particularly Gen Z, urging young citizens to understand the implications of these alleged malpractices.

Context: Haryana Assembly Election Results

In the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls, the BJP won 48 seats with 55,48,800 votes (39.94%), while the Congress-CPIM alliance secured 37 seats with 54,64,975 votes (39.34%). The difference between the two parties was 83,825 votes (0.60%), making the contest extremely close. Gandhi claims that electoral irregularities were responsible for Congress narrowly missing out on victory.

Political Implications

The allegations have stirred fresh controversy in Haryana, with Congress accusing the BJP and the EC of undermining India’s democratic framework. Gandhi’s remarks are likely to fuel debates over electoral reforms, transparency, and accountability ahead of future state and national elections.
