Weather Turns Wintry in April
New Delhi: It's April, but the weather in North India has once again brought a winter feel. Heavy snowfall is occurring in the mountainous regions, while rain and strong winds have brought down temperatures in the plains. While this change in weather has brought relief from the heat, it has also disrupted life in many places.
Continuous snowfall is occurring in the high altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Snow fell in Nathatop and Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir, while snowfall was also observed around Shikari Devi and the Rohtang Tunnel in Himachal. A blanket of snow has covered the entire stretch from Badrinath to Auli in Uttarakhand. Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri shrines are also covered in snow, impacting pilgrimage preparations.
The bad weather also affected the Vaishno Devi Yatra. The pilgrimage from Ardhkumwari to Bhawan was temporarily halted after a landslide near Himkoti. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was also closed for two days, but was later reopened in the evening.
A thunderstorm and rain alert has been issued for Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Department, wind speeds could reach 70 kilometers per hour in many areas, posing a risk of damage to trees and power lines.
Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad will experience partly cloudy skies today. A yellow alert has been issued due to the possibility of light rain and thunderstorms. Temperatures here are expected to hover between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius. However, the weather is expected to clear by the end of the week.
Strong winds, rain, and lightning are expected in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, which could disrupt travel and daily activities. Eastern parts of Rajasthan may experience dust storms and light rain, while western areas will experience hot and dry weather. Punjab will also experience cloudy skies, with light rain possible at some locations.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in northern India will remain unstable until April 9th. After that, the weather is expected to gradually clear up. For now, people are advised to remain vigilant and monitor weather updates.
