New Delhi: Social activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk's wife Geetanjali has filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Friday, seeking immediate release of her husband.

Gitanjali Angmo, Sonam Wangchuk's wife, has challenged her husband's arrest. She filed a writ petition in the court under Article 32 of the Constitution.

Earlier, on September 26, Sonam Wangchuk was detained under the National Security Act in connection with the recent Leh unrest.

Wife demands Sonam's release
It is noteworthy that Geetanjali Angmo has sought her husband's release through a habeas corpus petition. Sonam Wangchuk is currently lodged in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan. The grounds raised in this petition are not yet known.

It is believed that the case may be heard urgently when the Supreme Court reopens after the Dussehra holidays on October 6. Wangchuk is an innovator and Ramon Magsaysay Award winner and has been a prominent voice on environmental and social issues in Ladakh.
