New Delhi: Angry passengers staged protests at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after two SpiceJet flights to Dubai were delayed for more than 24 hours, leaving travellers stranded and demanding answers from the airline.
Passengers were seen raising slogans against SpiceJet and seeking food, accommodation and clarity over when their flights would finally depart. The disruption led to tense scenes at the airport as travellers waited for updates.
The affected flights were SG 5111 and SG 5105, both operating from Delhi to Dubai.
Flight SG 5111 was scheduled to depart at 7:45 am on Monday but was subsequently rescheduled to Tuesday. SG 5105, which was scheduled for 6:45 pm on Monday, was also pushed to Tuesday.
According to aviation data cited in reports, SG 5111 eventually departed at around 2 pm on Tuesday, while SG 5105 was further rescheduled for 1 am on Wednesday.
With the delays stretching beyond a day, passengers staged sit-in protests on Monday and again on Tuesday.
Travellers demanded clear information about their departure schedules and also sought arrangements for food and accommodation. Videos from the airport showed passengers raising slogans including “SpiceJet chor hai” and “SpiceJet haye haye.”
Airport personnel later stepped in to provide food and water and arranged a place where stranded passengers could rest.
SpiceJet attributed the disruption to operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft.
The airline apologised for the inconvenience and said it was arranging alternative flights for affected passengers while working to minimise the disruption.
The prolonged delay has once again highlighted the difficulties faced by passengers when flight schedules are disrupted for extended periods, particularly on international routes.
