New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, approved the National Sports Policy (NSP) 2025. This historic policy will replace the Sports Policy of the year 2001, and its main objective is to make India the top performer in the 2036 Olympics.
But this is not just a policy but a roadmap to make India a sports superpower, which has brought a new energy and direction not only for the players but for every citizen, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
NSP 2025 is based on five pillars
The new sports policy has been prepared with extensive consultation and an inclusive approach. It involved the participation of central ministries, NITI Aayog, state governments, national sports federations, players, coaches, experts, and common people. This policy is based on five major pillars:
The emphasis of NSP 2025 is on identifying talents from the grassroots level to the international level. Modern sports infrastructure will be created in villages, towns, and cities. Special attention will be given to training, coaching, nutrition, and sports science so that players are prepared at both physical and mental levels.
Sports will get an economic boost
Sports for every section
This policy also prioritizes social inclusion. Special programs will be run to increase the participation of women, tribals, economically weaker sections, and Divyangjans. There will also be an effort to revive traditional sports and connect NRIs with Indian sports culture.
Fitness will become a mass movement
In NSP 2025, many big steps will be taken to make fitness a part of lifestyle. Fitness index will be implemented at schools, workplaces, and community centers. People will be motivated to lead an active life by running a mass fitness campaign across the country.
Confluence of education and sports
Under the new policy, sports will be made an integral part of education in line with the National Education Policy 2020. Teachers will get special training, and sports will be given equal importance as academic careers. A strong implementation framework has been prepared in NSP 2025. It includes performance criteria, timelines, and instructions to states to formulate their own policy. Under the 'whole of government approach,' sports will be linked to other ministries and schemes.
