New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed strong disappointment over the Lok Sabha’s decision to reject the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which sought to provide reservation for women in legislatures. He said the opposition parties would “regret for the rest of their lives” for not supporting the landmark proposal.

The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) held at Parliament House in New Delhi. He criticized the opposition for blocking the bill, describing their stance as a “serious mistake” that would have lasting political consequences.

The bill, aimed at enhancing women’s representation in elected bodies, failed to clear the lower house, drawing sharp reactions from the government side.
