Umar Khalid granted interim bail: Court conditions and the full case
New Delhi: Umar Khalid, an accused in the Delhi riots case and former JNU student leader, has been granted temporary, or interim, bail by the court.
The court has allowed him to be released on bail from December 16 to December 29 so that he can attend his sister's wedding. The Karkardooma Court has also made it clear that Umar must surrender back to custody on the evening of December 29.
The conditions imposed by the court are as follows:
Umar Khalid had sought interim bail from December 14 to December 29 to attend his sister's wedding. The petition stated that the wedding is on December 27 and it is an important family event, requiring his presence. The court slightly modified the dates and granted bail from December 16 to December 29.

The Delhi riots of February 2020 saw widespread violence, affecting a large number of people:
Umar and several others, including Sharjeel Imam, are accused of conspiring to orchestrate this large-scale violence. A case has been registered under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) in this matter.
In the previous hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Delhi Police, told the court that the 2020 violence was not the result of a sudden clash.
It was a pre-planned and well-orchestrated conspiracy. The evidence (such as speeches and WhatsApp chats) shows that an attempt was made to divide society on communal lines.
He referred to Sharjeel Imam's alleged speech, stating that Imam had called for a nationwide road blockade. In the past, several bail applications filed by Umar Khalid have also been rejected by the court.
